STORYTELLER
Fiction was always, and still is, my first true love. A great yarn is, at once, a companion, a time machine, a window into what it means to be human. Plagued by self-doubt, it took me years to have the confidence to finally write down own my stories. Since going back to school to complete a graduate degree in Creative Fiction, the dam finally burst and I've been waking up at 4:30 in the morning, every morning, to meet the day with a blank page. I've written two novels, a short story collection and a screenplay, all currently being shopped to publishers and agents. It is the most arduous, frustrating and rewarding experience of my life.
The Beating Heart
What better to time to write a collection of deeply unsettling stories about slightly unbalanced people and their obsessive ideas than during a global pandemic? Metaphysical espionage, Vietnamese cryptozoology, dystopic neurology and Shania Twain all make appearances.
"There was no other choice: cross the border before the sun went down, before the Ahool found us again. And Now You Are Cursed From The Earth
Three brothers, one inheritance, no hope. My first foray into screenwriting, a gritty Southern noir where desperation is just the beginning.
Helen and the Heat Death of the Universe
A decade-spanning, genre-hopping 900-page meta-fictional mystery about a young woman who suddenly vanishes, the story unfolds from dozens of POVs and styles as a modern-day re-telling of the legend of Helen of Troy and structured around the Fibonacci sequence.
"I had done some PI work and then I didn‘t. I pointed a finger, took a cut, and then walked away guilt-free in the other direction with no regrets. The only cases I got now were colds, the occasional blues and the rare missing persons who disappeared before I could make them breakfast."
When Dangers Gather (or, The Junkie's Guide to Literature and Espionage)
My first novel, a literary espionage thriller that follows failed novelist and washed-up secret agent Ed Berlin as he races to track down The Janitor, an alias he secretly created years ago that has mysteriously come to life and started killing those closest to Ed.
"Hello. My name is Ed Berlin, I haven't been myself lately, and right now I'm falling from the fifth floor of a hotel.
